What a good Wix package includes

Wix gigs range from template setup to fully custom designs with stores and bookings. Check that the package states:

• Pages: how many, and which ones.
• Design: a customized template or a design built from scratch.
• Mobile view checked and adjusted for every page.
• Features: store, bookings, blog, forms, members area.
• Apps: which are installed and which cost money.
• Search basics: page titles, descriptions and image alt text.
• Handover: a walkthrough of how to edit the site.
• Revisions and delivery time.

Ask which parts of the design are built from Wix's standard sections and which are custom. Standard sections are easier for you to edit later; heavily customized layouts can look great but are easier to break when you move things around in the editor.

How to brief a Wix expert

1. What the site is for: bookings, sales, enquiries or information.
2. A page list with the content for each page.
3. Brand files: logo, colors, fonts and photos.
4. Sites you like, from Wix or elsewhere, with notes.
5. Features you need now and ones you may add later.
6. Your Wix account, with the expert added as a collaborator.
7. Your domain, and who will connect it.

Check every page on your phone before approving. Mobile layouts on website builders often have overlapping text, oversized images or hidden buttons that only show up on a small screen.

Keep your plan and app subscriptions in your own name with your own payment method. If an expert pays for them and later stops, features can switch off without warning, and it is harder to see what you are actually paying for each month.

Red flags

• The expert wants to build the site in their own account.
• No mention of the mobile view.
• Many paid apps with no list of costs.
• A portfolio with no live Wix sites you can visit.
• Requests for your account password instead of collaborator access.

Before launch, connect your domain, set up a professional email address if you need one, and make sure your contact form sends messages to an inbox you check. Ask the expert to submit a test enquiry and a test booking or order, so you know the messages actually arrive.
